Sur scène, Kandy Guira est solaire. Sa voix, à la fois claire et enracinée, oscille entre douceur et puissance. Elle chante en mooré, en dioula et en français, tissant un pont entre les traditions du Burkina Faso et les sonorités contemporaines. Sa musique, ancrée dans la terre rouge du Sahel, s’habille d’électro et de pop pour mieux dialoguer avec le monde. Née à Yamoussoukro, Kandy grandit entre la Côte d’Ivoire et le Burkina Faso. Très jeune, elle forge sa voix dans les cabarets de Ouagadougou, mêlant rythmes traditionnels et influences modernes.

Avant de s’imposer en solo, elle est membre du collectif Les Amazones d’Afrique et elle collabore sur scène comme en studio avec de grandes figures de la musique africaine : Manu Dibango, Amadou & Mariam, Oumou Sangaré, Cheick Tidiane Seck ou encore Floby. Nourrie par toutes ces rencontres à la croisée des styles, Kandy Guira porte haut, sur les scènes internationales – sur les 5 continents – la voix des femmes et des peuples du continent…

En 2016, son premier EP Tek la Runda (“Je prends les rênes”) l’amènera jusqu’en Chine. Il marque une affirmation : celle d’une femme qui trace sa route. Avec l’album Nagtaba (“Ensemble”), paru en octobre 2021 et édité par RFI Talent, elle érige un manifeste musical audacieux, un afro-électropop vibrant où résonnent – en Afrique, au Canada et en Europe – les thèmes de la solidarité, de la sororité et de la fierté africaine.

Au-delà du son, Kandy cultive un imaginaire visuel foisonnant, un univers peuplé de figures libres et colorées. Son rêve, joyeusement exubérant, est un monde où chaque mélodie devient personnage, où chaque refrain se transforme en aventure. Woumtaba (“L’entente”), premier single de son prochain album Fusion en est le parfait exemple.

In the kaleidoscopic world of Kandy Guira, music is colored with bursts of life, rhythms that animate a magical comic strip where ancestral voices dance to the pulse of the city of happiness. Between dream and commitment, the Burkinabe artist composes a vibrant, joyful, and deeply human work.

On stage, Kandy Guira is radiant. Her voice, both clear and rooted, oscillates between softness and power. She sings in Mooré, Dioula, and French, weaving a bridge between the traditions of Burkina Faso and contemporary sounds. Her music, rooted in the red earth of the Sahel, is dressed in electro and pop to better communicate with the world.

Born in Yamoussoukro, Kandy grew up in Ivory Cost and then in Burkina Faso. Even as a child, songs on the radio made Kandy’s heart beat, instilling in her an instinctive dance, like a call from elsewhere. This visceral calling never left her: dancing, singing, and fashion shows became her indomitable passions, invincible in the face of obstacles. After a short time as a dancer with the National Ballet, she honed her voice in the cabarets of Ouagadougou. It was when she became a regular at Les Jardins de l’amitié that she first stepped onto the scene of Jazz à Ouaga. Everything became possible.

In 2009, during a television appearance, Kandy sang “M’Ba” in tribute to her mother; a moment of pure emotion that sealed the beginning of her artistic career. Kandy then collaborated with major figures in African music: Cheick Tidiane Seck, Manu Dibango, Amadou & Mariam and Oumou Sangaré.

Before establishing herself as a solo artist, she was also a member of the collective Les Amazones d’Afrique. Nourished by all these encounters at the crossroads of multiple aesthetics in the studio as well as on international stages (USA, Canada, Brazil, China, Europe, Africa, etc.), Kandy Guira carries high the voice of the women and peoples.

In 2016, her first EP Tek la Runda —”I’m taking the reins”— took her all the way in China. It marked a statement: that of a woman who, from then on, was forging her own path. In October 2021, with the album Nagtaba—”Together” in Mooré—released by RFI Talent, she created a bold musical manifesto – in Africa, in Canada and in Europe – , a vibrant Afro-electropop resonating with themes of solidarity, sisterhood, and African pride.

Beyond sound, Kandy cultivates a rich visual imagination, a universe populated by free and colorful figures. Her joyfully exuberant dream is a world where every melody becomes a character, where every chorus transforms into an adventure. Woumtaba(‘Harmony’), the first single from his upcoming album Fusion, is the perfect example.

In this upcoming album Fusion, Kandy will offer us a vibrant ode to unity, solidarity, and collective strength. At a time of growing divisions, Kandy celebrates what brings us together, reminding us that “it is together that we build the most beautiful things.”
